About Me

Devon Caldwell is a Kindergarten and special education teacher who has worked in Fort La Bosse and Park West School Divisions and Greater Victoria School District. In addition to teaching Kindergarten, she is a PhD Candidate in Curriculum and Instruction (Early Childhood Education) at University of Victoria. Devon is passionate about infusing technology to foster collaboration, inclusion, and innovation, and she is excited to study how technology is being used with young children in rural and urban Manitoba settings.

In 2009, she graduated from Brandon University with a Master of Education degree in special education. Devon participated in both the 2008 and 2012 Microsoft Partners in Learning Global Forums, and her collaborative project with colleague Leah Obach won first runner up in Extended Learning Beyond the Classroom (2012). In 2014, she attended Microsoft Education Global Forum in Spain, and her Learn-a-thon team received first place in the gender equality category with the project, A New Toy Story. Honours include designation as a Microsoft Innovative Expert Fellow and recipient of a Canadian Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence, Early Years Teaching Excellence Award from Fort La Bosse School Division, and ManACE Educator of the Year Award.

Devon is an enthusiastic contributor to online professional learning communities and loves mentoring educators and pre-service teachers. Devon is also a certified hatha/yin/restorative yoga teacher, and when she is not at school, you can find her on her yoga mat or travelling the world! Devon and her colleague Leah Obach were awarded first runner up in Extended Learning Beyond the Classroom at Microsoft Partners in Learning Global Forum in Prague, CZ, in December 2012.
Devon and her Learn-a-thon team won first place in the gender equality category at Microsoft Education Global Forum in Barcelona, Spain, in March 2014.
